How do I switch from the CPU GUI client to the Console client?
From FaHWiki
If you are currently running the CPU GUI client and wish to run the CPU Console client:
- Stop the CPU GUI client with Quit function (right click red icon in the tray).
- Locate the path to the GUI client: e.g.: C:\Program Files\Folding@Home\winFAH.exe.
- Download the Console client with the same major version number as your GUI client: (e.g.- Both could be v5.xx) If that's not possible, be sure the major version number is greater.
- This is not a Windows installer, so do not run it. Instead, place it in the same path where you found winFAH.exe
- You will find a shortcut to the GUI client in the Startup group. It normally restarts the GUI client when you reboot. You do NOT want to ever allow both clients to run at the same time. Generally that means you should edit this shortcut to point to the console client. It may be safer to delete/rename winfah.exe, too, so it doesn't get started accidentally, but that's up to you.
- Start the Console client manually or reboot. It should resume work on the current WU at the same point the work by the GUI was suspended.
The procedure is basically reversible unless there was a change to the major version number. You should never try to downgrade (say from V5.xx to v4.xx) without a complete uninstall of all FAH files from your machine.
If you have been running multiple clients (e.g.- with dual-cpu machines) you must add the -local flag to any shortcut that doesn't already have one.
